What is an Advice of Shipment?

An advice of shipment is a notification — typically sent by the seller or shipper to the buyer — confirming that goods have been dispatched. It usually includes the bill of lading number, vessel and voyage, container numbers, expected arrival date, and a copy of the commercial invoice and packing list.
