CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight)

What is CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight)?

CIF is an Incoterm under which the seller pays for the goods, ocean freight to the named destination port, and minimum-coverage cargo insurance. Risk transfers to the buyer when the goods are loaded onto the vessel at origin, even though the seller continues to pay freight beyond that point. CIF applies only to ocean and inland waterway shipments.
