What is EAR (Export Administration Regulations)?

The Export Administration Regulations are the U.S. rules administered by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) that govern the export and re-export of most commercial and dual-use items. Items subject to the EAR are classified under an Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) on the Commerce Control List.
