What is ECCN (Export Control Classification Number)?

An ECCN is a five-character alphanumeric code assigned to an item on the Commerce Control List under the EAR. The ECCN drives whether an export license is required for a given destination, end-user, and end-use. Items not classified on the CCL are typically designated EAR99.
