What is Harmonized System (HS) Code?

The Harmonized System is the international six-digit product classification system maintained by the World Customs Organization. Every traded good has an HS code, and almost every country builds its national tariff schedule on top of it. The U.S. extends HS to ten digits as the HTSUS.
