What are Holds?

A hold is any block on a container’s release — placed by CBP, a partner government agency, the carrier, or the terminal. Common types include manifest holds, exam holds, FDA holds, and freight holds for unpaid charges. Each hold has a different process for clearing it, and stacked holds can quickly create costly delays.
