What is Lift-on/Lift-off (LoLo)?

Lift-on/lift-off describes vessel operations where containers are loaded and discharged using cranes. The vast majority of containerized ocean cargo moves on LoLo vessels — distinct from RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) operations used for vehicles and wheeled cargo.
