What is a Pre-Alert / Arrival Notice?

A pre-alert is an advance notification — usually from the origin freight forwarder to the destination forwarder, broker, or consignee — that a shipment has been booked or sailed. The destination party uses the pre-alert to start preparing the customs entry and inland logistics, well before the formal arrival notice.
