What is a Shipper’s Letter of Instruction (SLI)?

A Shipper’s Letter of Instruction is the document a shipper provides to a freight forwarder or carrier authorizing them to handle the shipment, along with all the data needed to prepare the bill of lading and any required filings (including AES for U.S. exports).
