What is Verified Gross Mass (VGM)?

VGM is the verified total weight of a packed export container, including cargo, dunnage, and the container’s own tare weight. The shipper is responsible for declaring VGM to the carrier before loading under the SOLAS Convention; carriers cannot load a container without a verified VGM.
